HalleluYah. This is a pretty interesting word. The way it was originally written in the Bible is with the Hebrew letters you see here. I left off the vowel markers because originally there weren’t any. This word is one of the most ancient words of praise. It is a purely Hebrew word but is found in just about every language. The Hebrew is actually a compound word, meaning it’s two words put together:
Hallel which is an exhortation of praise
Yah which is the name of the One being praised, the English transliteration of the covenant name of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob – YHWH/YHVH – some pronounce as Yahweh, Yehovah, Yahuah to name a few. Yah is the shortened version.
